| In January of 1973 the Matney family opened Maple Hill Funeral Home and began providing quality funeral services to the families in the Kansas City area. Conveniently located in Maple Hill Cemetery, which the Matney family also owns, the funeral home was under the direction of William H. "Bill" Young, Ethel Matney's son. Bill is still in charge of the funeral home today. He was President of the Kansas Funeral Directors Assoc. for the 1999 - 2000 term. Bill is also a Commander for the one of the National Disaster Mortuary Teams. He spent a great deal of time in New York City helping to recover from the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Most recently, Bill was deployed in New Orleans helping with the hurricane Katrina recovery effort.
Currently there are four other licensed funeral directors on staff. Gary McDaniel joined the firm in 1975; Kirk Kinsinger in 1985; Jeff Bowker in 1989, and our most recent addition, Tana Pearson-Blanco, joined us full time in 2004. In December 2007, Gary Simmons joined our staff as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Sandy Walker, Bill's sister, joined the firm as our bookkeeper in 1999.
