Brian Keith John Emerton

Brian Keith John Emerton age 85 of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Thursday March 2, 2017 at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born January 31, 1932 in Wellingborough, England the son of Albert Emerton and Josie Swailles. Brian was sixteen when completed high school in England and after that he came to America where he lived with his sister and brother-in-law Max and Eileen Hord. On May 1, 1954 in Fort Scott, Kansas Brian married Eleanor Mae Sanders. They shared over 27 years of marriage before Eleanor passed away on January 10, 1982. To this union they shared two children; Michael Brian and Cheryl Eileen. On March 2, 1985 in Olathe, Kansas Brian was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Roth. They shared thirty two wonderful years of marriage. Barbara survives. Brian enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 6, 1952. He was a flight engineer and earned the rank of S/Sgt (T). He was Honorably discharged on May 5, 1956. Initially Brian wanted to enlist in the Navy but they would not take him because he was not a full fledged citizen at the time. However, he much enjoyed his duty in the Air Force and had always thought it helped him excel with getting a good job when he came home. Brian worked odd jobs when he first returned home from the Air Force to Fort Scott, Kansas. He was a telegram delivery, a fry cook and later as a meat cutter like his brother-in-law Max. Brian then decided to apply and attend college. He graduated from Pittsburg University in Pittsburg, Kansas with a degree in Education. In his early years of teaching Brian taught math at Coronado Junior High in Kansas City, Kansas and then to Washington High School. He then accepted a job as a Math Professor at Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas where he taught for many years and retired in 1992. Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was always building shelves, bird houses and wind mills. Most of all Brian was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His warm spirit and loving heart will be dearly missed by his loving wife Barbara and daughter Cheryl and his entire family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Michael Brian Emerton; one brother, Ted Emerton; and one sister, Eileen Hord. Brian is survived by his loving wife of the home, Barbara Jean Emerton; his two daughters Cheryl Eileen Morris of Kansas City, KS and Colette Roth of Baldwin City, KS; three grandchildren, Ashley R. Emerton-Plaster and her husband Jesse of Kansas City, KS, Brandi Morris of Kansas City, KS and Shawn M. Morris of Kansas City, KS; four great grandchildren Shawn M. Morris Jr., Matthew M. Morris, Hannah L. Jackson and Faith N. Morris. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas with the burial to follow at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas.
