Alex Glenn Hill

Alex Hill went fishing on July 6, 2018. So many people had a best friend in Alex. His smile could light up a moonless night sky, and no one can forget how he made you feel when he greeted you. He was always happy to see people, and his infectious spirit left you happier in life for just being around him. Alex’s true best friend was his loving wife Gayle Hill. Those around Gayle admire her patience with Alex, but the reality is Gayle was fueled and entertained in living a life with a man that beamed life into everywhere he went. Together, they created a welcoming home for their three boys Corey Hill, 29, Connor Hill, 20, and Cole Hill, 18, and daughter Katie Hill, 25. Alex would glow in his admiration for his kid’s lives, a proud papa that loved sharing the accomplishments of his kids. His children will always know they have their biggest cheerleader in their corner, rooting for their success – even as he throws something across his room in Heaven when they won’t listen to his advice. Alex was a little brother to his two sisters, Robin Cummins and her husband Stan, and Willa Ashworth and her husband Dan, and a brother, Allen Hill and his wife Heidi. Robin, Willa, and Allen had front row seats to the Alex Hill show, and they didn’t leave their seats from the day he was born to the day he left to follow their Dad, Gene Hill, their mom Pat Hill, and their Uncle Butch to pick up telling tales about Minnesota fishing trips, the Jayhawks, Royals and Chiefs. Robin, Willa and Allen’s children were blessed to have an Uncle Al in their life that relished living the many memories he had with them, and always looked forward to learning their next big triumphs in life. Alex made friends everywhere he went. Alex’s friends, that were lucky enough to have met him when Alex was younger, held on tight. Life’s path led Alex to make friends through many experiences, including his jobs at Inland Container and Harrah’s casino. Alex’s friends at Harrah’s had a love/hate experience with Al as they loved being around him, but hated working with him because everyone would flock to Alex’s table – making them work harder. But, work and life goes so much faster when you were around Al. Alex’s mom, Pat, used to say that life can be measured by the memories you make in it. Pat never realized how much counting would be required with Alex. Let’s celebrate those memories at St Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Dr, Shawnee Mission, KS 66203. A Rosary will be at 5:30 P.M. on Monday, July 9, 2018 followed by the wake from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M where we can swap memories. Mass will be held at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, followed by the burial and a luncheon afterwards. Alex hated to say goodbye. Gayle learned to give Alex 45-minute warnings when it was time to leave. In life, Alex’s Catholic faith gave Alex the foundation to know that he isn’t saying goodbye now, but to know, that Big Al will be standing at the pearly gates of Heaven to welcome us when it’s our time. Let’s just be ready to hear the stories of how big the fish are in Heaven.
