Barbara J. Fox

Barbara Joan Massengill Fox, lovingly known as “Bobbi,” passed away at the age of 95, at home surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and unforgettable adventures. Bobbi was born on May 15, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Frank and Lucille Massengill. She graduated from Argentine High School, attended Ursuline Academy, and later studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, where her creative spirit continued to grow. For 47 years, Bobbi was married to the love of her life, Glen Fox, who preceded her in death in 2019. Together, they built a life filled with family, hard work, and countless memories. Bobbi was known for her sense of humor, her huge heart & quirky love of wallpaper. She could make everyone laugh & feel welcome. She would make care packages for the homeless and taught her children to “Be good to people, honor your parents, and be a good neighbor.” More than anything, Bobbi loved to travel. She never believed a trip had to be carefully planned—sometimes the best adventures came from simply getting in the car and seeing where the road led. Her children fondly recalled, “Sometimes, where we had planned to go was nowhere near where we ended up. Where we ended up was always better! Mom would just keep driving until she found the place that felt right.” Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Fox; her son, Billy White Jr.; her daughter, Dianne “Dee” White; her grandson, Derrick Morris; her brother, Harold Brumley; her sisters, Helen Brumley Williams, Irma Massengill Madden, and Mary Lou Massengill; and her brother, Robert Massengill. And her beloved Rabbit, Petey. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Randy White (Michael Poss), Kim Downes (Rich Downes), and Phil Morris (Corrine Riley). She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends whose lives were brighter because they knew her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her niece, Ruth Ann Morris, whose loving care made it possible for Bobbi to remain at home, and to her niece, Theresa Angle, along with the many family members & friends, such as Jacqueline Chenault, who supported her over the years. Bobbi also shared a treasured lifelong friendship with Shirley Chance, her favorite travel companion. Bobbi lived life on her own terms—with curiosity, a quick wit, spontaneity, a strong spirit, and a suitcase never too far away. She never met a road she wasn’t willing to explore, an adventure she wasn’t ready to chase, or a person she wasn’t willing to help. Her family will remember her with every unexpected detour, every shared laugh, and every story that begins with, “Let’s just see where this road goes.” Now it is time for her next adventure. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in loving memory of Barbara J. Fox to Kansas City Hospice House, in appreciation of the compassionate care they provided.
