Betty Jean Doughty

Our beloved mother, Betty Jean Doughty, a few days from her 98th birthday, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 12, 2024 in her home where she lived for 69 years. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 in Block 24 in Maple Hill Funeral Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. There will be an open casket viewing at graveside from 9:30 to 10:00 am. A separate celebration of life will be held at a later date. Betty was born on June 24,1926 to John and Myrtle (Nonken) Tevis in Kansas City, Kansas where she grew up and was a graduate of Wyandotte High School. She played in the all girl band and was in the drumline. She was married on November 26, 1948 to Edward E. Doughty for 55 years and was a devoted wife and mother. Throughout her life she worked as an Avon and Artext Paints representative, at Jacobs Lawn Repair service, and for the Wyandotte County Election Board. Betty was very active at Bristol Hill United Methodist Church for many years where she loved to sing in the choir, play the piano and organ, was the Sunday school secretary and treasurer and involved in many other activities there. Betty was a volunteer at Bethany Medical Center and Providence Hospital where she received volunteer of the year awards. She was all about having fun and playing games and being active outside the house. She took many travel tour bus trips especially the casino trips and was an avid bowler into her 80’s. She loved to crochet, draw and paint with watercolors, or any craft she could find. Betty had a big heart. She loved little adventures and filling her time with simple fun activities spreading her smile and joy with so many she crossed paths with. Betty is preceded in death by both of her parents; husband Edward Doughty; and sisters Mary Lou Harder and Phyllis Malone. She is survived by her daughters Jeanette Webb, Rose Doughty and Denise Gossman (Mark); grandchildren Kevin Brown (Helen), Amanda Clark (Jason), Galen Gossman, Donna Langer, David Webb Jr., and Shannon Webb; and seven great grandchildren.
