Bonnie Jean Pappas

On June 1, 2026, Bonnie Jean Bethard Pappas, devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, left this world with the same strength and grace that defined her life. Bonnie was born on November 16, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Robert and Alma Bethard. She married Jack Precht on January 10, 1970, and together they welcomed two children, Lisa and Rusty. For 13 years, Bonnie dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mother, creating a loving and stable home for her family. She later began a successful career journey, first with Klein Tools, where her hard work and leadership earned her a supervisory position at a newly opened manufacturing facility in Chicago. The family relocated with her and enjoyed several memorable years exploring the city together. Bonnie ultimately returned to Kansas and spent the final 29 years of her career with Kraft Tool in Shawnee, where she served as Inventory Supervisor and played an important role in the company's growth and success. As a mother, Bonnie was nurturing, compassionate, and unwavering in her support. As "Nana," she found her greatest joy in her grandchildren, who were always her highest priority. Nothing mattered more to Bonnie than her family. She was the heart of every holiday gathering, birthday celebration, and special occasion, bringing loved ones together and creating traditions and memories that will be treasured for generations. Bonnie's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family and into the outdoor spaces she lovingly created. Each spring she filled her yard with flowers, carefully decorated her deck, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She had a special gift for making every space feel warm, welcoming, and comfortable—always shared with her beloved dogs, Marco and Poppy. Throughout her life, Bonnie faced challenges with remarkable determination and grit. Those qualities shone brightest during her courageous battle with Stage IV esophageal cancer. After receiving an initial prognosis of only a few months to live, Bonnie defied expectations and lived for two more years. More importantly, she truly lived. She continued cooking for her family, spending time with treasured friends, and taking drives to her favorite places—HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby, Target, and 7 Brew for an iced coffee. Her strength, resilience, and positive spirit were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Bonnie leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Shane O'Bryan; her son and daughter-in-law, Rusty Precht and Jennifer Schrowe; and her three beloved granddaughters, Rylee Antonelle, Maddie O'Bryan, and Haylee Precht. She is also survived by her grandson-in-law, Tyler Antonelle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert ("Bob") and Alma Bethard; her brothers, Roger, Lewis, Harold, and Robin Bethard; and her beloved grandson, Brody Precht. A Celebration of Life honoring Bonnie will be held on June 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (with lunch served) at Maple Hill Funeral Home, 3300 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, Kansas 66106—just a few blocks from the neighborhood where she grew up. Bonnie's family takes comfort in knowing that the love, strength, kindness, and devotion she shared so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
