Charles Richard Zurn Sr.

Charles Richard Zurn, Sr., 92, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026 at his home. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, also at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Charles was born on June 13, 1933, in Fortuna, Missouri, the son of Richard and Anna Atkison Zurn. He lived a long life devoted to his family and will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the love he shared with those closest to him. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family. For more than 40 years, he was dedicated to his role as a maintenance supervisor at the American Walnut Company. In addition to his primary job, he often took on second jobs at various salvage yards, where he formed many lifelong friendships. A man of remarkable skill, he could fix or build just about anything. With the help of his family, he even rebuilt his home from the ground up. Whenever someone he loved was in need, whether it was a broken-down car, a flat tire, or a little financial help, he was always the first to step in. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing with his mother, his sons, his cousin Jerry, and his best friend, Larry Armintrout, often alongside Larry’s son, Troy. He also made time for deer hunting, one of his favorite pastimes. He lived a full and meaningful life, defined by his deep love and unwavering devotion to his family, always putting their care and well-being first. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and felt especially blessed to welcome his great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Zurn; his son, Charles Richard Zurn, Jr.; his brothers, Arthur, Jimmy, and Robert Zurn; and beloved his sister, Anna Roe. Charles is survived by his daughter, Debbie Toomay (Ron); his son, Roy Dean Zurn (Judy); as well as six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry on his legacy.
