Dennis Theodore Johnson

Dennis Theodore Johnson, 91, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 24, 1934, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Stanley and Elsie (Braun) Johnson. Dennis grew up in Kansas and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army before beginning a lifelong career as an engineer and owner of J&S Scale Company, following in his father’s footsteps as a builder, creator, and provider. On June 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Johnson, and together they shared 65 wonderful years. A man of deep faith, Dennis was a devoted member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, KS, for over 50 years, serving on the board, singing in the choir, and attending NJCAA events with his church family. Dennis had a deep love for sports and was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, Creighton Bluejays, and Kansas State Wildcats. His sharp wit, great sense of humor, and ornery charm brought laughter to those around him. More than anything, he was a strong Christian and a faithful servant of the Lord, guiding others in prayer and encouraging them in their walk with Jesus. He cherished family traditions, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, often hosting gatherings filled with warmth and love. His presence was a constant source of strength and joy to those who knew him. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Elsie Johnson, and his sisters, Lorraine Robinson, Shirley Fast, and Marilyn Hern. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Johnson; sons Dan (Darla) Johnson and Paul (Krista) Johnson; daughter Deborah (Steve) Fabrizius; siblings, Karen Paulsen, Gary Johnson and Alan Johnson; nine grandchildren—Noel, Rebekah, Danielle, Brenna, Marisa, Muriel, Logan, Matthew, and Ali; and ten great-grandchildren—Gemma, Skylar, Emily, Ridge, Rylan, Rosie, Aven, Naomi, Toby, and Riley; and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church: 11720 Nieman Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. A light lunch will be served at Maple Hill Funeral Home following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org in honor of Dennis’ memory. Dennis leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
