Dolly Dorene Coleman

Dolly Dorene (Leffert) Coleman joined her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 while surrounded by loving family members in her home in Kansas City, KS. Dolly was born on March 27, 1933 in Linn Creek, Missouri to Frank and Anna (Campbell) Leffert. She attended Linn Creek and Stoutland, Missouri schools before graduating from Camdenton, Missouri high school in 1951. On her 18th birthday, Dolly married Louis Coleman, the love of her life. Dolly and Louis moved their four daughters from their Camdenton farm to Kansas City, KS in 1964. Dolly was a loving homemaker who enjoyed gospel music; reading; gardening; fishing; sewing; attending school events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and visiting with family and friends. She also worked in the office of Standard Home Improvement in Kansas City, KS. Dolly was a devout Christian and served as a Sunday school teacher, Christmas and holiday pageants composer and director, and choir director of New Hope Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS. Dolly is survived by her husband of 67 years, Louis Coleman of Kansas City, KS; daughters Pat Shanks and husband Don Speer, Harrisonville, MO; Janet Manis and husband Mike, Shawnee, KS; Sandygaye Coleman and fiancé Charles Young II, Shakopee, MN; and Sue Schulze and husband Jon of Smithville, MO. She is also survived by grandchildren Patrese Shanks; Kathy Haff; Angie Dickerson; Joey Manis; Michelle Manis; Bryon Hurley; Kenneth Hurley; Bradley Mabary; and Rick Schulze – along with 12 great-grandchildren. Dolly’s other survivors include her sisters Mabel Perkins and Betty Cochran; brother-in-law Charles Coleman; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; brothers William “Bill”, James “Jimmy”, Delmar “Tuck”, and Kenneth “Pete” Leffert; sisters Virbria Wilson-Wallander, Ruby Martin, and Dorothy Coleman; and son-in-law Dana Shanks. Visitation will be 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 26, 2018 at Maple Hill Funeral Home at 3300 Shawnee Dr., Kansas City, KS 66106. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m., and burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. We celebrate Dolly’s life and accomplishments, and will treasure the memories she created for those she leaves behind – until we gather for that Great Reunion in Heaven!
