Earnest “Earnie” William Cross, 70, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Evangel Assembly of God in Western Grove, Arkansas, with a celebration of life following at the Loyal Order of the Moose, located at 8498 Fire House Lane, Harrison, Arkansas. Earnie was born on March 25, 1954, in Bentonville, Arkansas, to George and Lottie Cross. He spent his formative years in the Kansas City Metro area, graduating from Northeast High School. While still in high school, Earnie began his career in a plating shop, a position that would lead him to a lifelong career with TWA, where he served in various roles for over 40 years. Known for his mechanical prowess, Earnie’s home was always stocked with tools, spare parts, and manuals for every item he owned. His persistence and commitment to solving problems were legendary; no challenge was too daunting, as he’d often say, “Eh, we’ll figure it out; it’ll be alright.” His optimistic, social nature made him beloved by all who knew him, as he could connect with anyone, bringing joy and light wherever he went. Earnie was a friend to many, always ready to lend an ear or offer encouragement with kindness and understanding. Despite a terminal diagnosis, Earnie faced his final days with courage and peace, reflecting on a life well-lived. He shared, “I really have nothing to complain about. I have three great kids and am very proud of who they turned out to be. I’ve had a lot of fun, traveled to places I wanted, and done all the things I’ve wanted to do. I’ve lived a great life.” Earnie was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Cross, and his brother, David Cross. He is survived by his father, George Cross; siblings, Sharon (Ron) Hubbard and Stevie (Diane) Cross; his three children, Tawnya (Ted) Vehige, Kelsie Cross (Dale Lynch), and Chad (Kourtney) Cross; ten grandchildren—Brent Martin, Derek Martin, Kira Cape Phillips, Jacob Gentry-Cape, Curtis Vehige, Brady Vehige, Graham Lynch, Melanie Lynch, Camden Cross, and Cohen Cross—and thirteen great-grandchildren. Earnie’s warmth, resilience, and spirit will be missed dearly and remembered with love. His family and friends carry forward his legacy of joy, friendship, and strength.
