Georgetta Miller

With great sadness, we announce the loss of a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Georgetta (McKinley) Miller, fondly called George and Aunt Getta. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Georgetta was born February 17, 1946, the 5th child to Virgil Lee and Maxine (Harris) McKinley in Kansas City, Kansas. Georgetta passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was 77 years old. Georgetta grew up in the community of Rosedale that she loved and attended Mt Carmel Baptist Church. When she moved out of the area she became a member of Timothy Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Georgetta (George) attended Attucks Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated in 1964 from Rosedale High School. After graduating George moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked at Johnson Controls. She married Walter Miller and they welcomed to this union a beautiful daughter, Tameka. Although George and Walter later divorced, they stayed close and were great parents and friends. Georgetta moved to California in 1971 and in 1973 moved back to Kansas City, Kansas and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. George started her career at KU Medical Center in 1974 and retired in 2010. George was a generous mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had the biggest heart. She was a fearless independent lioness, yet sensitive and compassionate. She loved to go “junking” and to the casinos. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Georgetta’s memory lives on with her loving daughter, Tameka Carlson of Grandview, MO., sisters Nadine Allen, Kansas City, Kansas, Mary McKinley, Milwaukee, WI., Wanda Bakhshifar, Santa Clarita, CA and Vicki El-Amin, Kansas City, MO, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends. And a special niece/daughter, Crystal Griddine. Georgetta was predeceased by her father and mother, Virgil and Maxine McKinley, brothers Richard (Dale), Edward and Leroy McKinley, sisters Betty Smith, Glenda McKinley, and Linda Henderson. Services will be held on Friday, January 12 at Maple Hill Funeral Home, 3300 Shawnee Dr., Kansas City, Kansas 66106. The visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Homegoing service will start at 11:00 am, burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, 2301 S. 34th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66106.
