Gloria Medina

Gloria Medina, 92, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on March 23, 2026 surrounded by her family. Gloria was born on September 22, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Mathew and Louise (Gonzales) Reyes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Henry O. Medina; her son, Tommy L. Medina; both her parents: her brothers, Alfonso Reyes and Matthew Reyes Jr.; and her sister, Eloise (Reyes) Collier. She is survived by her sons, Henry K. Medina and Michael (Andrea) Medina; her daughters, Donna (Louie) Gonzalez and Michelle Medina; her brother, Raymond Reyes; her sister, Irene (Victor) Terreros; as well as 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Gloria was born in the Argentine district of Kansas City Kansas. Gloria attended Clara Barton and Argentine Middle. Gloria worked at Pischotta's produce before become a full time house wife. In 1953, Gloria married Henry Medina. They moved to Kansas City, MO to begin their marriage. After residing in an apartment on The Paseo for a short while, they moved and lived for a number of years at 40th and Wayne. After Henry's retirement, they moved back to Argentine in 1986. Henry and Gloria raised their five children with a Catholic foundation with faith, love, discipline, respect and the importance of family. The house always had pets which were part of the family. Gloria taught her children at a young age to cook, clean, sew, iron and launder clothes. Coming from a sizable family, Gloria helped raise and taught many of the younger relatives chores and responsibilities. Gloria had a "calling" in her life to take care of her family members when they were ill. She is often regarded as the "Florence Nightingale" of the family. Her patience, unconditional love and support of family was always there. Among Gloria's hobbies was her free hand sketches of people and animals. Water colors and paint books often filled her free time. Gloria loved jewelry and brighter colors in clothes. She was a movie lover and had a passion for the classics and westerns. Gloria was a very shy person, she was most comfortable around her family and that is where her sense of humor was the brightest. Gloria was a story teller to her children and grandchildren. She would often tell of her times growing up and mention various family members who had passed on, this kept the memories alive with a new generation of family. Gloria was a humble women who loved and served the lord. She will be missed by many but her spirit of love, laughter, support and wisdom will be fond memories that will live in our hearts. Gloria has earned her wings and often helped others carry their cross in life besides her own. Somewhere in heaven Gloria is serving God. Rest in peace Gloria, you served well in your journey on Earth. We love you and will greatly miss you. in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Luke's hospice house, 3516 Summit KCMO 64111. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. The Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
