Helen Maguerite (Trevor) Miller

Helen Marguerite (Trevor) Miller, 94, of Kansas City, KS passed away May 31, 2017 in Garnett, KS after a brief stay at the Parkview Heights Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Helen was born July 22, 1922 in the home at Turner, KS (now KCK) to Alma (Hewitt) and Charles Jay Trevor. She graduated from Turner High School in 1940 where she was recognized as the school newspaper editor for several years. In 1947, she married Harry Miller, Jr.; enjoying each other’s companionship and love for over 64 years. Helen was very proud of heritage, as her great grandfather Dr. Richard Hewitt among his many accomplishments also was a founding father of the First Baptist Church of Turner; along with his son, Lansing Parker (Helen’s grandfather). Helen was very proud to be an active member of the church for her entire life and the Christian life she led. Her work history included attendance and secretarial duties for Turner High School, bookkeeping related work for Allis Chambers and Armour Meat Packing and working in the mailroom of the Jones Department Store. Her proudest accomplishment was the devotion to her family and the raising of her three boys to adulthood. Her civic endeavors include being an active member of both the Turner Fortnightly and The Hawthorne clubs. She was an avid crossword puzzle worker and loved to read, devouring novels at a weekly rate. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her siblings, Charles Leslie Trevor, Jane Calvert, Lora Hammer, and Marie Kinder; and son Harry James Miller. She is survived by son’s Thomas Lee (Rita) Miller, Randall Trevor (Vicki) Miller; granddaughter Haley Victoria (Austin Lawrence) Miller, grandsons Austin Siler (Cassie LeFever) Miller, Matthew (Halie) Black; great-granddaughter Carter Jo Lawrence, great grandsons Siler Lewis Miller and Lance Emmet DeMoss Black. In addition, she had a number of nieces and nephews; and their related families. The family would also like to recognize the care givers that helped Helen remain in her home and maintain a high quality of life; Mary Follin and her family, a neighbor for over 20 years with a great mutual admiration of love for each other, Sylvia Mitchell of Home Instead, and the wonderful care she received from all the staff at Parkview Heights. Helen was a very beautiful, kind and sweet lady with a great demeanor exhibited to all; she will be missed greatly by all her new her. Funeral services will be 11: 00 A.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas with the burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Turner, 701 S. 55th Street, Kansas City, KS 66106.
