Howard Lee McGhan

HOWARD L. MCGHAN Howard L. McGhan of Kansas City, KS passed away May 15, 2015, one day after his 92nd birthday. Howard was born in Kansas City, KS on May 14, 1923 to Lee and Marie (Altman) McGhan and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Argentine High School. He met the love of his life, Tillie (Yurkovich) York at the Plamor Ice Skating Rink when he was there with friends after WWII. Howard and Tillie married on December 31, 1948. They enjoyed a lifetime of traveling, dancing, playing dominoes and cards with family and friends. Howard loved golf, he got a hole in one on a 160 yard par 3 at Dubs Dread Golf Course in 1984. Howard’s passion in life was woodworking, computer repair, and any and all types handyman work including electrical and mechanical. He made many handmade gifts for family and friends in his basement wood-shop. He was preceded in death by his wife just shy of 65 years, his parents, along with his 2 brothers and sister. He is survived by daughters Jan (Dave) Anderson, Carol (Jerry) Wright, and most beloved grandson, Erik Harper. Howard leaves behind 6 step grandchildren, and one step great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Brookdale College Square, formerly Emeritus of Overland Park, for the wonderful, loving and compassionate care of Dad. He told us on many occasions that “the food was good, everyone was nice, I have no complaints.” Our thanks to all of the staff at Brookdale College Square, especially his daily caregivers for making Dad’s life happy and enjoyable the last 2 ½ years. We would also like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care. All of you are truly angels. We were so fortunate and blessed to have you in our lives. A service with the immediate family will be held on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Alzheimer’s Association, Crossroads Hospice, or to your favorite charity in Howard’s memory. Howard was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family. He was adorned and loved by many and will be in our hearts forever.
