Jeannetta June Powell

Jeannetta was born February 8, 1933 to George and Rosamund Metz in Kansas City, KS and was the oldest of three children. She attended Argentine High School's class of 1951. She had many friends and continued to keep many of those friendships throughout her entire life. After she met and married the love of her life, Clarence Powell, she attended cosmetology school where she obtained her cosmetology license. She worked in a salon for a few years before her first son, Mike, was born. In the following years Jeannetta and Clarence grew their little family into a family of 6. Jeannetta relished her role as a mother and homemaker. She took great pride in cooking homemade meals (many of her recipes are routinely requested) and running a house full of children with ease. She did this day in and out selflessly all while keeping a loving sense of calm and kindness about her. Despite being widowed at an early age, she continued to help watch each and every one of her 7 grandchildren over the numerous years. This is something she always considered one of her greatest treasures in her life. She gave so much love to each and every grandchild and managed to give priceless support to her adult children and their spouses. She would even have a hot meal ready for everyone when they came home from work. It was an amazing gesture of love to her family. To this day each grandchild feels that they have a unique and special relationship with her. She gave all of them the chance to be nurtured by her unconditional love. During this time she even managed to achieve an 18 year career with Sam’s Club as a Demo Lady. Handing out free samples and sweet smiles to everyone she encountered. Of course you got and extra-large sample if she knew you! Jeannetta was greatly loved by all who knew her. She made friends easily wherever she went. (She was always on the go!) She was always eager to share stories about loved ones and friends, and be a listening ear for those who needed her. Her homemade sweet breads, pies and cookies were legendary. Her pies and sweet bread were requested for most all social gathering around town and a must have at all family gatherings. Her cookies would instantly put a smile on your face and of course, you could never just have one. Jeannetta was passionate about volunteering and helping those in need. After the passing of her son Michael, a cause close to her heart was the Cancer Society. If you choose, you may send donations to the American Cancer Society in her honor. Jeannetta June Powell was called to eternal rest on September 26, 2019. She is lovingly reunited with her beloved husband, Clarence Powell and oldest son Michael Powell. She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Tim) Bowman and two sons Brian (Carrie) Powell and Steve Powell and daughter-in-law Debra (Barry Lake) Powell as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sister Georgia (Charlie) Mathis and Brother George Ed (Judy) Metz Heaven has truly gained one of God's sweetest souls and she will be greatly missed by us all.
