Lee Rieke Bourquin

Lee Rieke Bourquin, 61, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on November 6, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Lee was born February 25, 1962, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Alfonse “Butch” and Sandra Rieke Bourquin. Lee thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it involved activities like boating, skiing, jet skiing, or snow skiing, he love being outdoors and loved the water. His heart truly thrived in the embrace of nature. He embodied the spirit of an extroverted adventurer, constantly seeking the company of others and effortlessly connecting with anyone he met. Lee worked hard to build a business in excavating and concrete work, taking extreme pride in the finished product. He often felt he was the only one who could do the job right, as his coworkers and friends know. Music was a source of solace and inspiration for him. One of his cherished pastimes was exploring new culinary delights at diverse restaurants, proudly regarding himself as a culinary enthusiast. His passion for food even led him to a memorable appearance on an episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." After tasting the ribs, he said “his taste buds were dancing". This remark landed him an appearance on the episode. Lee possessed a heart overflowing with compassion, kindness, and generosity, consistently contributing to causes he held dear. Above all, he cherished the invaluable moments spent with his beloved friends and family. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfonse “Butch” Bourquin. Lee is survived by his mother, Sandra (Rieke) Bourquin; siblings, Antonia “Toni” Rieke (Bruce) and Michael Rieke Bourquin; niece Savannah Rieke Newson (Logan); nephew Antone Rieke; and many dear friends. The family will hold a visitation from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Maple Hill Funeral Home, with a prayer service and Rosary beginning at 5:15 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Lee would love a memorial contribution(s) to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Jerusalem Prayer Team International or a local animal shelter (KC Pet Project, Wayside Waifs, Great Plains SPCA).
