Mark Randall Nidiffer

After a short, but strong fight, Mark lost his battle and passed peacefully with his loving family by his side on Aug 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Nidiffer, his father, Jim Nidiffer and his brother, Jerry Stevens. He is survived by Cheryl Nidiffer, his wife of 36 years. His 3 children, Jared Nidiffer (Jessica) of Shawnee, Nicholas R Nidiffer of Kansas City and Sara Bender (Paul) of Spring Hill. Mark was blessed with 3 beautiful Granddaughters, Lylah and Rowyn Nidiffer, and 2-month-old, Annie Bender. 2 sisters, Rebecca Nidiffer (Andrea) of Olathe, nephew Carter Reece-Nidiffer, Melissa Owens (Boyd) of Olathe, nephews, Cody, Joseph, and Garret Owens. 2 nieces, Angi Stevens and Sydney Owens. Mark also had beloved cousins and a large group of long-time friends who shared in his love of cars, racing and Harley-Davidsons. Mark was an encyclopedia of knowledge of old-time rock and roll and he loved live music. He enjoyed long rides on his 2003 100 th anniversary HD Road king and he was a fan of Ford cars, especially Mustangs, and was a softie for his 3 grandchildren. He spent hours tinkering with all his toys in his garage. Mark was honorable, loyal, and big hearted. He would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger. As a family, we traveled across the US on countless road trips, including the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Carmel, and Disney World. He helped coach baseball and attended many of his kids’ high school and college activities. We celebrated family birthdays, hosted many holidays, and enjoyed drinks by the pool every summer. In 1975, Mark began his life-long career with Local 1290. He worked as a laborer until 1994, when he took a position as Field agent. In 2000, he was elected Local 1290 Business manager, where he proudly represented a 1500-member union and became one of Local 1290’s most respected and revered managers. Mark served on many funds including Health and Welfare, Pension, Training, Apprenticeship, District Council, Tri- Funds and PAC. He was very successful in contract negotiating, which yielded the first $1/hr salary increase in history. He was very proud to represent the men and women of Local 1290 and he worked countless hours to secure livable benefits and wages, for them and their families. Mark ended his position as Laborers Local #1290 Business manager/Secretary/Treasurer in 2016 and began his new life in retirement.
