Mark Wayne Woods

Mark Woods, the son of Calvin and Shirley Woods was born October 31, 1962, in Kansas City. He attended school in the Turner School District and graduated from Turner High School in the Spring of 1980. After high school Mark stayed in the Turner area and went to work at General Motors within a year of graduating. He dedicated his entire career to the Fairfax District of General Motors working in numerous departments and positions. Mark retired from General Motors in 2011, and moved to his new home in Overbrook, Kansas. Mark got one of his life’s greatest gifts when he got the privilege of becoming a father to his new son, Tyler West. Mark was always a kid at heart, so he found it effortless to connect with an energetic little boy anxious to discover the world. Getting to experience being a part of raising Tyler through many stages of Tyler growing up brought Mark so much pride and joy. Mark’s other greatest gift in life came to him on October 26, 2000, when his baby girl, Elise Woods, was placed in his arms for the first time. From a tiny baby swaddled in his arms to the beautiful young lady she is today, Mark was wrapped around her little finger. There isn’t anything in this world Mark wouldn’t have done for his girl, and he didn’t even try to deny how smitten he always was by her. After retiring Mark moved to Overbrook to be near his mom and sister. He quickly grew tired of not having a job and began helping his niece and nephew-in-law run their lawn mowing business. Being involved in the lawn mowing business helped Mark meet many people, and it took no time before he was a loved member of the rural community surrounding him. Mark was a natural caretaker, and helper. He lovingly provided compassionate end of life care to both of his parents, offering respect and dignity throughout. He took care of his family in the most subtle ways, never wanting to be recognized for his contribution, but always wanting to be helpful. It was important to him to do little things that made life easier, or more pleasant for his family and friends. Mark never shied away from work. He loved to tinker with stuff and was always very proud when he could fix something that was deemed trash. Missing him deeply, and cherishing so many fond memories are; his children who think the world of him; Tyler West and Elise Woods, his siblings; Michael (Chelle) Woods, Jennifer (Jim) Lynn, Julie (Scott) Adams, and Matthew (Kendra) Woods. His nieces and nephews who have the fondest of memories of time spent with him; Joshua (Rachel) Woods, James Lynn, Jeremy (Molly) Woods, Desiree Woods, Amanda (Eric) Lawrence, Clinton Schiller, Joshua Woods, Mallory (Jacob) Jolly, Chelsa (Cody) Piland, Paris Adams, Breanna (Thomas Gardner) Adams, Rickey Adams, Matthew Nelson, Dakota Vaughn, Olivia Adams, and Charlotte Woods. He also had deep love and enjoyed spending time seeing the world through the eyes of his great nieces and nephews; Aaliyah Morris, Jaina Woods, Austin Thompson, Preston Lawrence, Juliet Woods, Arianna Thompson, Andi Morris, Aiden Thompson, Aeric Sutton, Hayden Jolly, Abel Sutton, Maelyn Jolly, Emmett Jolly, and Peyton Piland. Standing at the gates of Heaven welcoming him home were his papaw and granny, Hayden and Elsie Woods, his parents, Calvin and Shirley Woods, and his beloved dogs Coco and Nilla. Mark had many very close loved ones affected by cancer and would love in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
