Michael James Konomos

MICHAEL J. KONOMOS Michael J. Konomos, 59, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kansas City, Kan., on June 15, 1952. to John Konomos and Marlene Weaver Konomos. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Deborah (Farrar) Konomos, and his children, Rebecca Konomos Stanley (Denis), Rachel, James, Sarah, Cole, and T.J. Konomos; his parents, John and Marlene Konomos; siblings, Bill Konomos (Lynda), Johnna Tosspon and John D. Konomos; two grandchildren, Lillian Jay Skiles and Magnus Michael Stanley and many loving relatives and friends. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a 1970 graduate of Raytown South High School. He worked in the amusement business for 20 years and then went to work at the family business, Konomos Distributing Inc. in 1997. A man with a big heart and a contagious enthusiasm for life, he blessed those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was easy-going and humorous, even through his battle with cancer he remained optimistic and strong. Mike spread his positive attitude and zest for life to everyone around him, including all of the kids he coached in various CYO sports. Mike had a passion for fishing and hunting. He enjoyed coaching, listening to music, helping people whenever he could, and loving everyone with all his heart. We take comfort knowing that Mike is at peace and our memories will keep him alive forever. He touched the lives of many and he will not be forgotten. The visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, KS 66205 with Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at St. Agnes.
