Opal Estrada

Opal May Estrada, a beloved resident of Mission, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 85. Opal was born on March 21, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late John Nicolas and Opal E. (Garrison) Nicolas Reed. Opal's life was one filled with love, warmth, and a deep devotion to her family. She is reunited in eternal peace with her father, John Nicolas; her mother and step-father, Opal Reed and Merle Reed; her son, Dean Hodgens; and her daughter, Teresa Hughes. Opal leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her loving husband, John F. Estrada Jr.; her devoted sons, Derek Estrada Jr. (Sabrina Smith) and Curtis (Patricia) Spurgeon; her caring daughters, Lateecia Gibson (Mark Mapes) and Yvonne (Michael) Delich; her supportive brothers, Johnie (Ragina) Nicolas, Steve Reed, and Randy Reed; her adoring grandchildren, Christina Hodgens, Mark Hodgens, Michael Hodgens, Jason (Elisa) Spurgeon, Tiffany Jefferson, Marigrace Heinze, Wayne Jefferson, Scotty (Taylor) Hughes, Jessica (Sherman) Le Jeune, Shawn Gibson, Rachelle Wyatt, Ted Pauley, Joshua Palcher, Michael Palcher, Alicia (Garrett) Parker, Derek Estrada Jr., and Darren Estrada; and 28 great-grandchildren. Opal found joy in life's simple pleasures, from dining out and watching movies to expressing her creativity through crafting, crocheting, and painting. She had a passion for literature, often losing herself in the pages of a good book. Opal's generosity knew no bounds, as she showered her loved ones with thoughtful gestures and unwavering compassion. A visitation to honor Opal's life will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at 21st St. Community Church. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 11:00 A.M., with a graveside service immediately following at Maple Hill Cemetery. Opal will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and love. May she rest in peace, forever cherished and remembered.
