Mr. Paul Gustaf Anderson

Paul Gustaf Anderson, 88, was quietly called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 23rd, 2010. He was born to Swedish immigrants, Gustaf and Olivia Anderson, in Lindsborg, KS on November 26th, 1922. Along with his older sister, Helengrace, the family then settled in McPherson, KS. It was there as a young teenager that Paul surrendered his life to Jesus at the McPherson Covenant Church. Paul attended McPherson College for two years before enlisting in the army at Fort Riley. His tour of duty included assignments in Europe and Japan where he honorably served his country. Upon returning to the United States, Paul graduated from the University of Kansas with a business degree. He worked for the firm Peat, Marvick, and Mitchell for seven years as a CPA. The rest of his career was spent as a controller for Gustin-Bacon (later merging with Aeroquip) in Lawrence, KS. One of the happiest moments in Paul’s life was the day he married his beautiful bride, Elaine Marie Carlson. God gave them 42 wonderful years together before Elaine’s death in 1993. Together they raised four sons in Leawood, KS, enjoying countless ball games and school activities. Paul and Elaine were very active in the First Covenant Church in Westport and later as charter members of Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village where Paul served as church chairman among other duties. Paul’s real passion was his family. He was his sons’ biggest fan and he loved his daughters-in-law as if they were his own. One of his greatest joys in life was his grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow up and being involved in their lives as best he could. Paul will always be remembered as a faithful, loyal, generous father and grandfather who had a great sense of humor and a heart overflowing with love. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and wife Elaine. Left behind to mourn his passing are sons Dennis and wife Debra, Doug and wife Paula, Dave and wife Ruthie, and Richard and wife Sarah. He leaves his grandchildren Greg and wife Jewel, Paige, Brady, Jay, Will, and Chase. He also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Paul’s physician, Dr. Rene Bollier as well as the caring staff at Claridge Court. Although Paul will be greatly missed, we as a family know he is with the wonderful Savior he loved and served his whole life. A time of visitation and viewing will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, KS on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at 9:00 to11:00 am followed immediately by a memorial service. A graveside service will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg, KS on Thursday, December 30th at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon at the Lindsborg Covenant Church. Memorial gifts may be made in honor of Paul to the Hillcrest Covenant Church Benevolence Fund.
