Petra Martinez Orosco

Petra Martinez Orosco passed away November 6, 2021 surrounded by her family. Petra was born in Zaragosa, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on January 18, 1927. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 19. She worked as a Migrant Farm Worker in Weslaco, Texas. Petra returned to Mexico at the age of 25 to live in Camargo Chihuahua, Mexico where she raised her family. She was an extraordinary cook feeding the souls of many. After years in the restaurant industry, Petra became an entrepreneur and opened her own restaurant named “Restaurante Petrita” and also owned rental property. After many years she returned to the United States and worked at Faultless Healthcare Linen where she retired in 1992. After retirement Petra dedicated her time to taking care of her grandchildren and many of the neighborhood children. She was cherished in the community and sought out by many for her wisdom and gifts as a “Curandera” traditional native healer. She was the “Matriarch” of the family respected by all and known as “Doña Petra”. Petra engrained in her family to be charitable and caring for others as her saying was “Nunca se le niega a nadie comida o agua/Never deny anyone food or water”. She was a woman of Faith devoted to “La Virgen de Guadalupe” and her family who she protected and loved. Petra’s witty sense of humor would fill a room with laughter with her unexpected sayings. She was a resilient phenomenal woman who overcame many hardships. Her core values were family, strong work ethic, humility, integrity, honesty, kindness, fearlessness and independence. Petra was proceeded in death by her parents Apolonio and Patrosinia Martinez, 3 brothers, 1 sister, 5 children and 1 great-great grandson. She leaves 5 siblings; 3 daughters and 1 son, Faustina (Eligio) De La Paz, Maria Elva Briceño, Sofia Lara and Pedro Martinez; 24 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine 901 Avenida Cesar Chavez Kansas City, MO 64108. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Funeral Cemetery.
