Virginia "Ginger" Kimmons

Virginia “Ginger” Kimmons was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother during her incredible 86 years of life. She was born on May 5 1937, in Kansas City KS to her loving parents, Louicille and Oscar. Ginger had two siblings, Marylin “tootie” and Jessie Lea. She graduated from Rosedale high school 1955 She passed away in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, 2023 which ironically was Mother’s Day, we think the lord wanted to bring the greatest most special mom home. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM with Funeral Services at 2:00 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Ginger met the love of her life, James “Jim” Kimmons, in 1952 She thought he was the most handsome man in the world and he thinks she walks on water. They were married in 1956. Jim would tell you the day he asked her parents to marry their daughter they jokingly put her hand in his and said now she’s your problem Jimmy… Gingers spunky-ornery character with a hint of hardheadedness was unmatched! Their love story is something most only dream to have. The notebook movie couldn’t hold a candle to it!! They had two children they adored Jimbo and Rob, daughter in laws Kim and Jeanette and four grandchildren Rob, Bo, Krischelle and Billy. We were a small but extremely tight-knit family because of her. We celebrated every single holiday together. BBQs in the backyard for everything spring/summer and big hearty dinners for everything fall/winter. She even threw each kid and grandkid a birthday party every year. She especially loved Christmas and Halloween. She went all out on her Halloween costumes, we couldn’t wait to see what amazingly inappropriate thing she came up with! Christmas was something out of a movie for each of us. Us grandkids and great- grandkids would run in that back room with eyes bigger than saucers, Santa didn’t have anything on grandma ginger! Some of her favorite hobbies included swimming and laying in the sun, daily morning visits to “ the coffee shop” with her friend group, watching Kansas City Chiefs football games, shopping for her family (telling grandpa everything she bought was 2 dollars and he’d believe it even though she spent a small fortune) hosting family events at their house, making crafts, baking sweets, and dancing throughout the house to her favorite music! She had a heart of gold and the best personality. She was always joking around, you would never not be smiling or laughing while in her presence. Everyone loved her, so many people called her mom and grandma who weren’t blood related. But to her they were family, she loved everybody. You couldn’t tell Ginger she shouldn’t do something because she’d make a special point to show you how she could and WOULD! You could catch her outside in her late 70s with a machete chopping trees and weeds in her creek or you might catch her on a sled going down her hills in the snow with a grandkid on board! Ginger was predeceased by her mother Loucille and father Oscar “shorty” sisters tootie and Jessie Lea, and son Jimbo. She is survived by her loving husband Jim, son Rob, daughters in laws Jeanette and Kim, grandchildren Rob, Bo, Krischelle, Billy, and great-grandchildren Joshua, Elijah, Bbo, Ana, and Bill-Bill. We will miss Ginger dearly she was truly one of a kind, but we are so grateful for the time we had with her. We will cherish every memory she gave us. As a woman of faith, Ginger wished to have a celebration of the immortality promised to all by Christ. She would love to be remembered with funny, or silly stories that celebrate what was good and blessed in her life. Until we meet again, We love you more.
