Donald Eugene Trewett
April 28, 1925 - August 24, 2020
Don was born to Ellen and Leiter Trewett, April 28, 1925 in KC, Mo. Don and his sister, Joanne, were raised to love the Lord and they attended church together as a family. They were also founding members of First Baptist of Shawnee and at the age of 15 he was present at the ground breaking ceremony. He remembers having Sunday School in the old Shawnee jail house which was next door to the church. After high school, Don attended junior college for 2 years to pursue a career in architectural design. He was hired by the Core of Engineers and then went on to Howard, Needles, Tammen & Burgendoff where he helped design the KC intercity viaduct and several local bridges. He then went on to work for Housing and Urban Development until he retired in 2002. Don has always had a heart for reaching the lost and in the 1960's he served on the board of YFC. He married Lela Banman on June 13, 1953 and they were married for 57 years. Lela preceded him in death in August of 2010. He and Lela raised 3 children who grew to love the Lord and continue to serve Him. Don and Lela were blessed to travel to Canada many times to visit his sister and family, twice to the Holy Land, and to South America to visit Lela's uncle who founded a medical mission. As time went on Don enjoyed a special relationship with each of his 4 grandchildren which included many evenings of visiting in his home, attending school functions, family vacations and holidays. In his later years his greatest joy and entertainment was watching the personalities emerge and the development of his 9 great-grandchildren. Don faithfully served First Baptist Church of Shawnee in various roles for 80 years. After a fall and complication of pneumonia, on August 24, 2020 he was released from his physical body and received a glorified heavenly body and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 95.
