Earnest H. Russell Jr.

August 27, 1941 - January 15, 2022

Earnest H. Russell, Jr. passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Ernie was born August 27, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Earnest Russell Sr. and Marie Russell. On December 18, 1960 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Zelma. Ernie worked for Zarda Dairy and Roberts Dairy as a maintenance engineer. He loved woodworking and building projects. He cherished spending time with his family whether that be working on projects, fishing, or spending time with them at their home. He was a devoted family man and supported his family in every decision they made. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed. Earnest is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings Nancy Norris, Florence Ruth Pierce, and Rose Marie Christenson. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Zelma; children Earnest “Rusty” Russell III (Wanda) and Sherral DuVal; three grandchildren Dominique, Nick, and Jenny; and six great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Maple HIll Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Carl Junction Cemetery, Carl Junction, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Cards are also welcomed.
