Howard Lewis "Sam" Bell

Howard L. “Sam” Bell, 95, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on July 30, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Bessie Bell. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years during World War II and the Korean Conflict. As a proud veteran he also served as Commander for the Disabled American Veterans. He worked for KCP&L for thirty five years until retiring and then worked as a school bus driver for the Turner School District for seventeen years. His favorite role was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Ellen Bell on January 9, 1960. The couple was married for 61 years until Ellen’s passing in 2020. Together the two worked side by side at the family business, Bell’s Ceramics, where Sam would do most of the castings. He loved dancing, telling stories, and watching westerns. He was a great listener and loved talking to others about their lives. Sam enjoyed tinkering with and working on small engines. He lived a great life full of wonderful family, friends, and pets. He will be dearly missed. A visitation will take place from 1:00-2:00 PM with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy.
