Layton LeRoy Poe Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Layton LeRoy Poe,Jr , of Edwardsville, KS passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 17, 1943 the son of Roy and Arlene Poe. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jackie Poe; parents Roy and Arlene Poe; grandson Brian Sedlock; daughter in law Christy Smith-Poe. Lee is survived by his children John Maune (Kim), JoLena Sedlock (Steve), Anne Pittman (Matt), Ellen “Smitty” Minton (Jason), Matthew Poe, Daniel Poe (Melissa) and Luke Poe. Grandchildren Cara Poe-Newberry, Christian Smith, Chloe Smith, SSG Ryan Minton, Cameron Smith-Poe, Conner Smith-Poe, Abigail Minton, Cambree Smith-Poe, Camden Smith-Poe, Callie Smotherman, Sammi Pittman, Amanda Sharpe and Kristen Sedlock. Great grandchildren Journey, Justice, Michael Jr., Jackson, Marley, Ava, Mikayla and Aurora. Brother Russell Poe and sister Chris Fields. Many, nieces and nephews who all meant the world to him. Lee spent most of his time in the Navy working on the flight deck in the Mediterranean. Lee enjoyed listening to country music, when he was still a kid he taught himself to play guitar. Later Lee played guitar and sang in a band with his cousin Jimmy Cox and brother Russell Poe. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed telling stories of his time growing up in the Rosedale area and his adventures in the Navy. His greatest achievement was the love he shared with his wife, Jackie, his children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday December 5, 2021 at the Pinegate West Clubhouse at 6530 Barton Circle Shawnee, KS 66203.
