April 12, 1958 - September 27, 2021
Mark Allen Keating, 63, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away unexpectedly September 27, 2021 at his home. Mark was born April 12, 1958 in Onaga, Kansas, the son of Maurice and Ada Keating. Mark attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated in 1976 from St. Joseph High School, in Shawnee, Kansas. He was proud to represent the Bluestreaks, lettering in golf and participating in basketball. Mark was always a stellar student, attaining honor roll status all four years of high school. He went on to study civil engineering at Kansas State University. Mark was employed with the United States Postal Service for over 37 years. He was always known for his work ethic, and was awarded numerous times throughout his career for his “sustained high performance.” Mark was well-loved by his coworkers; his cheerfulness, knowledge, and willingness to help others will be truly missed. Mark loved the outdoors. Growing up he enjoyed hunting and fishing at his family’s farm in Lillis, Kansas. He appreciated the beauty of nature and the simple things in life. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, and would often talk with his dad on the phone as they each watched the football game. If you had to use one word to describe Mark it would be his kindness. He would give you the shirt off of his back, always willing to help a friend in need. He had an unassuming personality, someone who didn’t want attention on himself, but possessed a sharp wit and appreciated a good sense of humor. Mark is survived by his parents, Ada and Maurice Keating. In Mark’s words, “I have the greatest mom and dad. They have done countless things for me over the years.” He is also survived by his siblings: Julie (Craig) Maurer, Diana Keating, Dan (Denise) Keating, Michael (Rachel) Keating, Gary (Nicole) Keating, and numerous other extended family members. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Maple Hill Funeral Home, 3300 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.
