Michael Swiastyn

August 9, 1956 - March 8, 2021

Mike was born in Saint Joseph Missouri on August 9, 1956, to Henry and Lydia Swiastyn. Ever since he was a child, Mike loved the outdoors. He had countless adventure stories that he would tell his kids which included neighborhood night-time hide & seek, endless days at King Hill looking for ring-neck snakes, catching lizards and frogs, and neighborhood-wide tomato fights. When Mike was 17, he moved to Kansas City and worked for Gulf Oil as an Architectural Draftsman while attending college night classes. Mike’s life was a testament to God’s irresistible grace. When Mike was 28 years old, the Lord rescued his heart and he gave his life to Christ. Mike had met Tammy a year prior and had always said that her love for the Lord had such a great impact on his salvation. Praise the Lord for His relentless pursuit of hearts! Mike and Tammy got married in 1987 and over the next 13 years they had six children; Lindsey, Connor, Tucker, Joshua, Jonathan, and Samuel. Mike’s love for Jesus was the foundation of his leadership, love, and role as a father in the home. As you would imagine with six kids, Mike had countless come-home-from-work wrestle sessions and dog piles. A phrase that his kids shouted for years when he would arrive home from work would be “Jump for Joy! Daddy’s Home!”. Mike also leaves the legacy of nine grandchildren. We pray that they continue the heritage started by their Papa; knowing, loving, and following Jesus. On the morning of March 8, Mike went to be with the Lord. We are so thankful for Mike’s life. His absence will be greatly felt, and we are thankful that we have a loving Savior who comforts and mourns alongside us during this time. But we are also so thankful that we get to rejoice that Mike is singing and dancing in the presence of our good good Father.
