    Robert "Bob" Ryan Leary

    August 11, 1942 - November 29, 2021

Bob was born on August 11, 1942, the son of Daniel J. and Alice Ryan Leary. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy, and his son-in-law William T. Lee. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hettie Ann (Roberts) Leary, his daughter, Cammie Lee Leary and her fiance, Byron Phillips. The smartest, cutest girl in school Jessie. And Bob’s buddy Theo. Bob is also survived by brothers and sisters, D. Michael Leary, Creve Coeur, MO; Dr. Daniel J. Leary, Jr. & wife Pat, Naples, FL; Kathleen McGuire, Tulsa, OK; Mary Alice Leary, Kansas City, MO; sisters & brother in-laws, Erma Roberts (Pete) Stipetic; Olathe, KS; Frances Roberts (Kelly) Goodall, Marshall, AR and Harvey Joe (Karen) Roberts, Shawnee, KS. Bob was blessed with a slew of “favorite” nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews and many many friends, golf & fishing buddies. Bob was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He served with the 842nd Quartermasters in 1968-69, where he learned to make chocolate chip cookies that are still talked about to this day. A lifetime avid golfer, Bob finally reached his goal of shooting his age at the age of 78. Shot below his age but never his age. Oh, the stories his golf buddies could tell. He spent his working life in sales of medical equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals. However, Bob had his favorite job ever after retirement, a part time job with the Kansas Department of Wildlife. He taught groups of children about fish, the rules of fishing and that a bad day fishing was better than a good day working, “Fishing with Bob”. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 7, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM with a funeral mass starting at 10:30 AM all at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS 66203. There also will be a memorial celebration on Saturday, December 11 from 1 - 3 PM, at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty Street, Overland Park, KS. Bob was a lover of music. We will be spending this time sharing memories and listening to his favorites Bob did not have a favorite charity but he knew how to keep Hettie Ann happy . . .
