September 22, 1930 - August 4, 2021
W.Darlene Giger, 90, passed away August 4, 2021 at home in the care of her daughters and Phoenix Hospice in Kansas City, Kansas. Darlene was born on September 22, 1930 in Zeeland, North Dakota the daughter of Fred and Lydia Aipperspach in Zeeland, North Dakota. She was raised in Emporia,Kansas. Darlene was a gentle, kind spirit that lived a life of service to the church and community. She stayed behind the scenes supporting her husband and daughters in all their activities, whether it was school, sports, bible school, or just being there to support and have a calming effect. For 23 years she worked at Oak Grove Elementary in the cafeteria. Her main speciality was baking cinnamon rolls, buns for sandwiches and bread. She loved cooking and baking for the kids, church events and her family. Especially at Christmas sharing her treats. For many years Darlene was part of a group of women that prepared the annual German dinner fundraiser for the church. It was so popular that people from the church and neighboring communities would wait in line for the dinners. She loved baking and finding new recipes to share with others. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. She liked to listen to music especially Classic Country, Christmas music and Lutheran hymns. In her final days she found solace and comfort in hymns scattered with the old country classics, knowing that her husband Wayne was there to greet her in heaven. She is now walking through the gladioli fields with dad as she once did when they were courting. Darlene is preceded in death by her beloved husband Wayne Giger of 63 years, brother Walter Aipperspach, sister Ella Olinger. She leaves four daughters, Becky, Tina, Karen (Tom), Susan (Louanne); sister Edna Blanz; brother Kenneth Giger; granddaughter Hallie Ammacher; and special guys that called her grandma, Dakota, Nicholas and Kayden. A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, August 28, 2021 at the Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cross Lines Community Outreach, Inc.
