Billy James Johnson

Billy James Johnson, 89, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away January 9, 2023 peacefully surrounded by family. Billy was born June 21, 1933 in Humansville, Missouri, the son of Walter Johnson and Eva Mae Johnson. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an FPG, Petty Officer, Third Class. He served during the Korean conflict on the U.S.S. Helena. After his service he worked at Sunshine Biscuits as an oven operator and was the Chief Steward of his union. On April 18, 1975 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Miriam. Together they raised a big family who in turn blessed them with many grandchildren. Billy cherished spending time with each of them. He was a faithful member of the Bread Upon Waters, Free Methodist Ministries. Billy enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved his dogs and animals. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Johnson and Eva Mae Nicholson; great-granddaughter Amber; and siblings Edith (Delmar), Bob, Charles, Bernice (Harry), and Earlene (Donnie). He is survived by his wife, Miriam; children, James Johnson (Sylvia), Tammie Harves (John), Linda Riley (Donnie), Debra Reid, Camberlie Vestal (David), Keilani Howell (Rodney), Gwendolyn Johnson (Joe), and Jaella Johnson; grandchildren, Patrick (Lucinda), Jeremiah (Amanda), Bridget (Karl), Eric, Barnabas (Nicole), Gissela, Jessica (Julio), Bobbi (Ronnie), Samantha, Jimmy (Tessa), James, Mikaella, Alex (Faith), Katelyn (Lee), Tyler and North; great grandchildren Tiberius, Rosalyn, Grace, Madison, Lacey, Logan, Coletin, Taylor, McKinzey, Donavynn, Dillynn, William, Noah, Jerzee, Sydnee, Ronnie, Ethan, Liam, Annabelle, Bryson, Jeremiah, and one great grandchild on the way; great great grandchildren, John, Noah, and two more on the way; two siblings Richard Johnson (Sylvia) and Ed Nicholson (Collette); and sister in law Lois Johnson. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2023 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Navy Funeral Honors. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Bread Upon Waters, Youth Camp Ministry.
