Donna Irene Cervantes

Donna Irene Cervantes, 81, of Fontana and Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. Donna was born on July 14, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the youngest daughter of Dewey and Martha (Conley) Comer. She was raised in the Westside of Kansas City, Missouri and attended Johnson County Community College. Donna is preceded in death by both her parents and son, Manuel Rayfield Cervantes; and, her sisters, Thelma, Ernestine, Patty, and Mattie and brother Daniel. She is survived by her husband, Robert Stephens; son, Albert Abarca Cervantes (Marilyn Mosley), and daughters Angela Cervantes, Martha Cervantes (Todd Wortman), Jeanette Cervantes, and Mary Helen Cervantes Watson (Tim Watson); grandchildren Mario Guerra Jr., Stacy Pennington (Mike), Kelly Grube-Cervantes, Samantha Grube-Cervantes; and, great-grandchildren Mario Guerra III, Isabella Pennington, Manuel Guerra, Julian Guerra, Liam Cervantes, Cristian Guerra and Corina Guerra. Donna is also survived by dearly close friends and extended family, including many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Donna lived for her family. She was known to lift people with her love of music and dancing. She was an avid reader and found passion in writing short stories and poems to her loved ones. She loved to bake, crochet, sew and garden. She lived much of her life on her farm in Fontana, Kansas, cherishing the open space and starlit skies. Donna possessed a rare quality that was deeply rooted in never passing judgement on others. She was a North Star for those she loved and would sacrifice everything she had to be helpful to whoever needed assistance whether it was support, love or just a listening ear. When you were in her presence, you always felt love, kindness, understanding and support. She was unselfish and would not hesitate to help even if it meant she had to go without. What was most important to Donna, was that you were ok. Donna was the sweetest and is pure love. A Celebration of Life is being held for Donna on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 6:00p.m. at the American Legion, 7500 West 75 th St., Overland Park, Kansas. Those who knew and loved Donna are invited to attend and share their memories of her.
