Jay Winslow Deane

Jay Winslow Deane, born on May 20, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, in his beloved home. He was the beloved son of Jackson and Bernice (Graham) Deane. Jay was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, class of 1959. He went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in 1964. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Jay lived a life filled with dedication and service. He proudly served his country in the Kansas National Guard for 14 years. After his military service, Jay worked for the Social Security Administration where he was a union steward for the AFGE union, advocating for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers. Jay's dedication to both his country and his colleagues earned him several national titles for his contributions to union conferences. In addition to his work with the AFGE union, Jay was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Rosedale 1100. He served as past president of Eagles Rosedale and was a respected member of the Kansas State Board of Trustees for the Eagles. In addition, Jay was a 30 year member of the Tri County Rod and Gun Club. Jay was known for his passion for kids and sports, always eager to support local youth activities and teams. He especially cherished supporting his grandchildren's sports and school activities, always cheering them on with pride. He was also known for his camaraderie and love of socializing with his friends at the Eagles, where he could often be found enjoying a drink and good company. Jay married Gail Lynn Kimsey in 1968. She passed away in 2002. After a chance encounter planning his high school reunion, he found love again. He shared the next 21 years with Nancy (Hill) Luikart. They officially married in 2020. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Luikart Deane; his sons Jeff Deane (Beth) of Shawnee, Kansas; Jim Deane (Diana) of Ottawa, Kansas; Byron Luikart (Gina) of Shawnee, Kansas; Mike Luikart (Barb) of Zionsville, Indiana; and his beloved grandchildren: Thomas (Sydney) Deane, Jake Deane, Justin Luikart, Laura (Tim) Edwards, Brad (Jasmine) Luikart, Aaron (Savannah) Luikart, Kaitlyn Luikart, Mackenzie Luikart, and great-granddaughter Lily Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents. A viewing and funeral will be held at Maple Hill Funeral Home, 3300 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS 66106 on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The viewing will be from 10:00am - 11:00am with the funeral immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project through the Eagles or the Tunnel to Towers Project. Jay Winslow Deane will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him
