Joyce Louise Lewis

Joyce Louise (McCall) Lewis passed away peacefully at age 83 on March 19, 2025, in the comfort of her home in Kansas City, KS, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on March 29, 1941, to Charles and Hilda McCall, Joyce was the eldest of eight children and their only daughter. She helped her mother care for her seven younger brothers, a role that shaped her lifelong devotion to family. At 18, she married the love of her life, Paul Alexander Lewis, on October 24, 1959. Together, they raised six children. Over the years, their family grew to include twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter—each one bringing her immense joy. Joyce was a lover of simple pleasures: a warm bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, the first sip of black coffee in the morning, and the thrill of finding a good bargain while shopping. Though frugal by nature, she was endlessly generous, always offering a helping hand to those in need and donating regularly to Catholic Charities. Her kindness and selflessness touched many. After 51 years of marriage, Joyce lost Paul to cancer on August 21, 2010. Shortly before his passing, he promised her that he would be waiting for her in Heaven. Now, after nearly 15 years apart, they are reunited once more. Joyce is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Lewis; her son, Brian Lewis; her daughter, Brenda Durham; and her brothers Donnie, LeRoy, David, Leonard, and Greg McCall. She is survived by her son, Paul (Pam) Lewis of Kansas City, KS; her daughters Diane (Duane) Grabmiller of Bonner Springs, KS, Lisa (Bob) Lemon of Merriam, KS, and Denise Lewis of Kansas City, KS; her brothers Dennis McCall of Kansas City, KS, and Howard (Karen) McCall of Jamestown, OH; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends—all of whom will cherish her memory forever. A visitation will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Following burial services a reception will be held at The Lodge-Hollis Renewal Center at 11414 Kansas Avenue Kansas City, Kansas 66111
