Meredith Miller Christian

Meredith Miller Christian, 69, died on Aug. 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kan., following a six-month illness. She was born on Dec. 11, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan., the only child of Shirley (Sue) and Ken Miller. As a child, she lived in Kansas City, Kan., and Overland Park, Kan. In 1974, Meredith graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School, where she played softball, volleyball, and track. Meredith attended the University of Kansas, earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1978. She played softball during her two years at KU Lawrence campus. The 1975 Softball Jayhawks advanced to the AIAW Women’s World Series, finishing 5th in the nation. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and was recognized as a 50-year member in October 2025 by the Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter of Greater Kansas City. She worked her entire nursing career at the University of Kansas Hospital, where she met her future husband, Gary Christian. Meredith and Gary were married on Sept. 22, 1979, at Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kan. They lived first in Roeland Park, Kan., then moved to Mission, Kan., and then to Shawnee, Kan. They adopted an infant daughter, Emma (Quincy) Christian, on July 25, 1993. At KU Hospital, Meredith first worked in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, followed by the Surgery Department in the Outpatient Clinic and finally the Orthopedic Outpatient Clinic. She retired in 2016. Meredith was a longtime, active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lenexa, Kan., where she participated in the Monday study group, Micah study group and other Bible study groups. For many years, she coordinated the church’s blood drive. She was a longtime, second-generation member of P.E.O. Chapter CY and held several offices including president. A dog lover, Meredith enjoyed caring for many furry family members over the years. She also loved flamingos, owned flamingo-adorned clothing and other items and adorned the back of her SUV in flamingo decorations for the church’s annual Halloween trunk-or-treat event. Meredith was a troop leader for Quincy’s Girl Scout troop from Kindergarten through 8th grade, while Gary was the cookie dad and helped with the annual Girl Scout cookie distribution for several local troops. As a young adult, Meredith played competitive softball and later played recreational softball and volleyball. Throughout her life, she was an avid fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. Meredith’s hobbies included photography and scrapbooking. She enjoyed getting together with friends to work on scrapbook projects. She coordinated a monthly Friday night 93 Meredith was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Gary Christian, and her daughter, Quincy Christian. Cremation. A joint celebration of life for Meredith and her mother, Shirley (Sue) Miller, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 19 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 7740 Lackman Rd., Lenexa, Kan.
