Nancy Ellen Rios-Garcia

Nancy Ellen Rios-Garcia, 79, of Kansas City, KS, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 24, 1946, in Kansas City, MO, the beloved daughter of John and Lena Rios. Nancy was a true people person. She rarely met a stranger and had an effortless way of turning anyone into a friend. Whether through a cheerful conversation, a shared laugh, or a simple smile, she had a gift for making others feel seen and valued. Social by nature, Nancy loved spending time with friends, visiting the casino, traveling around town, getting her nails done, and keeping up with everyone’s lives. She especially enjoyed collecting Mexican dolls, shopping on QVC, and savoring her daily Coke and hamburger. Family was the center of Nancy’s world. She took great pride in staying connected and always made it a point to ask about the activities and accomplishments of her loved ones—especially her grandchildren. Being a grandmother, especially a great grandmother, was one of her greatest joys, and she embraced that role with endless love, encouragement, and devotion. She was always ready to listen, support, and show up for those who needed her. Nancy also shared a remarkable bond with her beloved dogs, Maxine and Sissy, whom she cherished deeply. Her relationship with Sissy was especially close. The two shared meals, took trips, enjoyed long walks, and spent countless hours napping side by side. They were inseparable companions, bringing comfort and joy to one another each day until Sissy’s passing at 17. Their bond was a beautiful reflection of Nancy’s tender and loyal heart. Known for her kindness, warmth, and genuine interest in others, Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and connection. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Rios. She is survived by her two children, Rich Garcia (Angela) and Lisa Garcia-Stewart (Darryl); her brother, John “JD” Rios; her grandchildren, Darryl Jr., Darrell, Ashley, Kacie, Izzy, and AJ; her great-grandson, Kingston; and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A visitation will be held from 9:00–10:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, KS. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
