Raina Naomi Esparza Raina Naomi Esparza, 15 passed away Tuesday June 14, 2011 in Merriam, KS. Raina was born December 7, 1995 in Overland Park, KS to Damon L. Smith and Agustina M. Espaza. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM., Saturday June 18, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS. A rosary will be held at 5:30 PM., Friday June 17, 2011 at Maple Hill Funeral Home with a visitation following until 8:30 PM. She attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and recently completed the 9th grade. She also attended Holy Name Catholic School pre-K through 8th grade. Raina enjoyed playing Basketball, listening to music, reading and singing. She especially enjoyed boxing and being involved in the sport with her family. Raina aspired to become an Occupational Therapist after her graduation from High School. Raina was a champion at heart and in ring. During her short boxing career she achieved a record of 15-3 Raina was the first boxer in the history of the Women's Golden Gloves to attain 3 medals in 3 separate weight classes during the same tournament. She also earned belts for the Jr. Olympics, Women's Worlds, Women's Golden Gloves. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Andres C. and Anna C.Esparza, Ms. Tammie Smith, aunt; JoAnna Esparza. She is survived by her parents; Damon L. Smith and Agustina M.
